Window shutters...letting the light in but keeping the world out. So true. I spent some time in Florence (was admitted to art school there) and it was the prevalence of shutters on the windows that fascinated me. It is not common where I grew up to have shutters. And now I live in a house where there are huge window, and not even any curtains. It feels like full exposure all the time. I need to find a place with shutters!
I need to return to Florence, this time to actually enjoy the city. And linen would be the perfect solution. Right now all the linen (flax plants) is outside the house in garden instead of inside on the windows.
I'm sure Florence would love to have you back. And I get what you mean about almost too much light, like we need it, we crave it but it's also nice to bring the volume down. Maybe the gauziest of linen curtains is the perfect combo...
Gosh Michelle, such a thoughtful piece and so perfectly illustrated. Thinking of shutters this way will stay with me, I rather like the idea of them protecting, gently filtering and allowing us to take our time. Beautiful work.
Grazie cara, thank you so much Sinù, made my day! It's been so fun to just let the lens guide me. I saw you pulled out your old camera recently so maybe you'll join in? xx,
A pleasure to read your thoughts as they are set down on the page Michelle and your lovely images work so well with those musings!
